Couples Therapy

Relationships are where we experience some of our greatest joys—and often, our most profound vulnerabilities. Over time, even the most deeply committed couples can get caught in painful patterns of misunderstanding, emotional distance, or gridlocked conflict.

Whether you are navigating a specific transition, recovering from a breach of trust, or simply feeling like roommates rather than partners, couples therapy offers a dedicated space to step out of the daily friction and truly see one another again.

Every relationship is entirely unique, which is why my work with couples is grounded in evidence-based frameworks that honor both your behavioral patterns and your deepest emotional needs. Rather than assigning blame, we look at the relational system you create together.

My work primarily draws from two powerful, empirically validated approaches:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): EFT helps you look beneath surface-level arguments and emotional reactivity to uncover the core attachment needs underneath. We will work to identify and gently interrupt the negative cycles (such as pursue-withdraw or attack-attack) that leave you both feeling lonely or unheard, paving the way for safe, vulnerable reconnection.

  • Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT): IBCT recognizes that while change is necessary, deep acceptance is equally vital. By balancing acceptance strategies—fostering empathy, softening emotional pain, and cultivating tolerance for differences—with gentle behavioral change, we help you build practical tools to navigate conflict with greater flexibility and compassion.

Couples therapy with me is not about finding a "winner" or learning rigid communication scripts. Together, we focus on:

  • Decoding emotional triggers and understanding what happens beneath anger, silence, or defensiveness.

  • Transforming the cycle, shifting from adversaries trapped in a loop to teammates tackling a shared problem.

  • Fostering radical acceptance, learning to honor your partner's distinct perspective without losing your own sense of self.

  • Deepening intimacy and trust, creating a secure base from which both of you can thrive individually and together.

You don't have to navigate the distance between you alone. If you are ready to move away from painful gridlock and toward a relationship marked by genuine emotional safety, flexibility, and warmth, I invite you to reach out to schedule an initial consultation.
